History

Rise to power

[edit | edit source]

When she discovered the garou on their homeworld of Antumnos, she was initially treated as prey. However, she demonstrated her divine nature by defeating her hunters. Following this, she challenged all the reigning kings of the garou clans in the capital city of Magrawn and defeated them in a single battle, ultimately claiming the title of High Queen. [3][4][5] Sometime soon, she arrived on Gielinor, settling in Ashenfall.

Reign and the God Wars

[edit | edit source]

Under Lougrim's leadership, the garou were focused and refined into exceptional hunters.[6] She retained the moon as her symbol, a reminder of her origins,[7] and her priests crafted sacred tokens centuries ago.[8] She was known to grant special weapons to worthy champions [9] and was called "the Huntress in moonlight" among her followers.[10]

During the God Wars, she and the garou conflicted with the humans, and eventually the goblins, the latter arriving with their God of War Bandos. As her followers were being pushed back and cornered, particularly after humans began using iron weapons against them, she mourned for her lost children.[11] She found the Dragonkin and allied with them, binding herself to the service of the Cabal.[12] This alliance allowed them to release dragons onto the army, turning the tide of battle. This reinforcement led to their victory when Bandos fought Velgar and was defeated due to his arrogance. After the war god's retreat, Lougrim would cease the attack on the humans, finding a sort of peace between them and the garou. She also assisted with the Dragonkin experimentation, which resulted in the creation of Kuldra.

Defeat and legacy

[edit | edit source]

Sometime after the war against the humans and goblins, Lougrim was challenged by Kuldra, who started a rebellion against the Dragonkin, freeing the dragons from their chains. According to the garou legend, Kuldra had defeated and devoured Lougrim in a cataclysmic battle.[13][14]

Despite her death, Lougrim's influence persists. Her priests continue to bear her moon symbol on their staves and altars, even while accepting Kuldra as their High Queen.[15] Shrines dedicated to her remain in Ashenfall, where rituals of purification are still performed in her memory.[16] There are also legends of a Silver Dire Wolf among some of the garou, believing it to be the reincarnated goddess, slowly rebuilding her power before rechallenging Kuldra.[17]

  1. Journal entry of Grieving Moon Staff, RuneScape: Dragonwilds. "Lougrim was a moon deity, born to a cold world of soft silvers and silence. Her people lived lives of quiet contemplation, each moment spent wondering about the next. They were passive, soft spoken and sedentary, which drove Lougrim wild. When a doorway to another world appeared and a grieving god wandered through it, Lougrim took the opportunity to run. To flee to another place, and live a life that she could endure."
  2. Journal entry of Grieving Moon Staff, RuneScape: Dragonwilds. "History skips the next bit. Her closest allies have never learned what elevated her from her previous form to that of the goddess of the hunt, but whatever it is was profound enough to change her completely. She no longer resembled her silent kindred. She was quiet, yes, but in the way a tiger is moments before the kill. She is contemplative, true, but it was the stillness of a spider waiting for its prey."
  3. Journal entry of Garou King, RuneScape: Dragonwilds. "When Lougrim first visited the world of the garou, a place known as Antumnos, she was treated as prey. Her hunters were no match for a goddess, of course, and she assumed the forms of powerful predators, forcing them into submission."
  4. Journal entry of Garou King, RuneScape: Dragonwilds. "She fell upon the capital of the garou nation, the city of Magrawn, where she called out a challenge to all the reigning kings of the garou clans. They answered the summons, and she defeated each of them together in a single, decisive battle. From then on, she held the mantle of High Queen of the garou."
  5. Journal entry of Leathery Parchment, RuneScape: Dragonwilds. "The High Queen, lady Lougrim, earned her place by challenging the kings of old. Taking on all of them in one mythical battle and emerging the victor. In the centuries that have followed, she has held her position and bested all challengers that think themselves her rival."
  6. Journal entry of Grieving Moon Staff, RuneScape: Dragonwilds. "When she found the garou, she knew she had found her real kindred. They were violent and deadly, and they yearned for the hunt. When she took her place as their goddess, she focused and refined them, creating hunters that were capable of felling almost any prey."
