In-Character History

Starting anew

[edit | edit source]
The following takes place during The Story So Far.

According to the Adventurer's Tunic and leggings, they are an adventurer from the mainland, who had traveled across the seas, labouring away on a ship deck. Sometime during their adventuring career, they had wealth and belongings, that would soon be lost as they started owing debts. Eventually they would only own the clothes on their back, and every treasure found, or gold piece made would be drained by debt collectors coming out of the shadows and swarming them like rats seeking cheese. When all hope was lost, an opportunity arrived, an expedition to a rediscovered continent known as Ashenfall. This was their chance to escape their troubles, start anew and travel far from home to make a new name for themselves, as well as build a new home. They were amongst some of the adventurers who arrived to Ashenfall through the lodestone, and began their new life and adventure there.

The following takes place during Dragon Slayer, Goblin Diplomacy and Restless Ghosts.

Upon arriving, they are greeted by the Wise Old Man who instructs them to either speak with Doric, Vannaka and Zanik to learn the basics of the lands and survival from them, or to meet him along the road, towards a ruined settlement known as Bramblemead Village. Upon arrival, they are instructed to build a base; a place for them to sleep and rest, meanwhile, they encounter Warren, and with a Ghostspeak Amulet, they'd assist the ghost in locating others to help put to rest. After building a base, they are instructed to search for Cathan, a novice adventurer who decided to venture towards the ruined keep in search of information to defeat Velgar. Upon arriving at the keep and finding Cathan's journal, learning that he had cleverly recruited the goblins into taking him towards a Dragonkin Vault. Before they can return to the Wise Old Man with what they learned, Velgar makes an appearance and attempts to wipe them out, then departs, unaware of his assault being unsuccessful. The adventurer(s) return to the Wise Old Man, who directs them to the vault located in the Whispering Swamp. During their travel there, they find Zanik, who requests their help in locating an odd source of power she has been sensing. Searching, they find a Bandosian Amulet that has some corrupted energy stored in it. Thankfully, the horror that could have been unleashed was prevented. They've also assisted some spirits find peace.

The following takes place during Dog Days, Granite Mauled and Heartstrings.

Upon arriving at the vault, it is discovered that Cathan had found a way to call on Velgar and challenge the dragon, requiring some sort of item. Cathan once again traveled alone, leaving most of the goblins to die within the vault. There, the adventurer(s) traveled to Ghornfell in search of Cathan. Heading towards Velgar's Rise, they find Cathan, deceased and a ghost. Cathan informs them of what happened, and how he was unable to complete the Challenge Horn, the item he discovered. After being informed of how to craft it, the adventurer(s) started gathering resources to not only craft the horn, but better equip themselves. While gathering supplies, they encounter both Vannaka, who they helped in the quest Stormtouched Highlands, learning more of his ancestry, and Doric, who was helped in Fractured Plains, where they were taught how to craft a Granite Maul. After gathering the supplies, exploring the land, and discovering an ancient song that allowed them to craft the Crystal Bow, they finally craft the horn and challenge Velgar, where they defeated the dragon, not only avenging Cathan, but all those that died to Velgar.

Upon returning to the Wise Old Man with the news and Velgar's Head, they are rewarded with the Draconic Visage, and are told they that can now relax, as Velgar has been dealt with, but should be prepared, as Velgar was just one of the many generals, before facing Kuldra, the Dragon Queen.

Undead ahead

[edit | edit source]
The following takes place during Withering Heights.

After a period of rest, the adventurer(s) began to feel an unnatural pull from the north. The Wise Old Man instructed them to meet him at the north-eastern border of the Fractured Plains called Ashien's Watch. There, he revealed the existence of a sealed door at the end of the old road, bound by a powerful necrotic spell. Refusing to interfere with such magic himself, he instead entrusted the adventurer(s) with the phrase required to undo the seal. Upon opening the door, the adventurer(s) discovered a long-forgotten temple, where they encountered Death, the Grim Reaper, who revealed that he had intervened in their past defeats, ensuring they did not meet a premature end. Death then spoke of Fellhollow and Imaru, explaining their connection to the events unfolding and requesting the adventurer(s)’ aid in defeating an undead dragon and breaking the curse binding her. In exchange for their assistance, he promised a reward. He asks them to speak with Cathan, who he requested to scout the region.

The adventurer(s) were directed to Postie Pete, who informed them that the passage to Fellhollow was blocked. The only remaining route lay through the Spectral Doors, barriers that could only be perceived and traversed by those whose souls had been sufficiently withered to interact with the spectral realm. After learning of the withered state required to perceive and pass through the Spectral Doors, Postie Pete informed the adventurer(s) of the Purifying Pool, a means of restoring their souls and preventing Imaru’s ghostly form from consuming them. Upon arriving in Fellhollow, the adventurer(s) rushed to the nearest well, evading wandering lost souls that attempted to slow their progress. After purifying their souls, they were free to explore the corrupted land and begin their search for Cathan. When they encountered their ghostly ally, Cathan revealed that Imaru’s curse had been divided into three fragments. These fragments anchored the tower’s defences, preventing the adventurer(s) from entering and confronting Imaru directly. Cathan disclosed the locations of the cursed crystals, and the adventurer(s) set out to recover them.

During their journey, they aided in Vannaka laying restless nature spirits and spectral chinchompas to rest; assisting Zanik in releasing trapped souls; and aiding Doric in not only accessing a sealed vault, which rewarded them with the knowledge required to create a salve amulet, but also showing them legendary weapons from stories told within the mainland.

The following takes place during Letters for the Dead, What Remains is Written and Mirror, Mirror.

As the adventurer(s) traversed through Fellhollow looking for the curse fragments, they inevitably encounter some spooky things. A strange mirror that held a mysterious figure for decades, a arrogant ghost that had his library ransacked by the locals, and hearing that their trusty pal Postie Pete had a small hiccup in the mail delivery run.

With the cursed crystals recovered, the adventurer(s) used them to weaken the defences of Imaru’s tower, allowing them to finally confront the undead dragon. After a prolonged and difficult battle, Imaru was finally defeated. With the threat ended, Death fulfilled his promise and rewarded the adventurer(s) for their assistance. With his task complete, he turned his attention to guiding the newly freed souls safely into the underworld. Cathan would inform the adventurer(s) of a fortress entrance in Silverthorn Keep and overhearing someone in it, believing them to be alive, asking them to join him on the adventure to explore the new location.

Trivia

[edit | edit source]
  • There has been questions on whether this character is the former World Guardian (the Adventurer), but it has been confirmed by developers and in-game lore that they are not the adventurer from RuneScape or Old School RuneScape
    • This is the second time a new game set in the RuneScape universe showed a new main character, the first was RuneScape: Idle Adventures, a spinoff game that ceased further development and shut down.
    • Just like the character in both RuneScape and Old School RuneScape, Death keeps them from passing on, as they still have work to do.
    • Just like the same characters, they have gone toe to toe with god-like enemies, like Velgar and Imaru.
  • When speaking to Cathan after defeating Imaru, he becomes impressed, stating that the mainland must miss them and how they must have solved all sorts of problems. This is a nod to the players not being in RuneScape or Old School RuneScape at the moment and instead are focused on RuneScape: DragonWilds.
  • This character is the second character to be given Zanik's Crossbow. The first being the main adventurer in RuneScape.
  • When you create a character, either with Body Type A or B, the preset starts off bald, with the adventurer tunic and legging. A nod to how RuneScape character creation used to be, when you start on Tutorial Island, your character preset appearance is bald, with lime green shirt and green pants.
    • This is still a thing in Old School RuneScape, while it was removed in RuneScape.
      • RuneScape's character creation now comes with a random presets.
  • Just like RuneScape and Old School RuneScape, this character does not like cabbages, according to the item's description.
    • However, if you cook a cabbage into a fried cabbage, the description says "Yum! maybe I do like cabbage.
  • While not stated in game, it is possible that the character, by the game's lore, is the new king of the garou for challenging and defeating the their King, as it is a tradition they have according to the lore.
    • The same can be considered for the goblins, after defeating Velgar, as in their tradition, the strongest rules over the weak, the title of Big High War God/Goddess could have been transferred to the character.
