History

History in the Mainland

While his past is shrouded in mystery, it is known that Vannaka is a werewolf who suppresses his wolf form. During an unknown time, he had joined the Tutorial Island as a Combat Instructor to teach new adventurers the basics of fighting and eventually left the island. It is unknown when he became a member of the Order of the Slayer Masters, before he became an instructor or after, Vannaka had trained under the legendary Duradel. During his time under him, the two fought, and Vannaka would witness something that haunts him to this day. His own master drew a wolfbane dagger and used it against him, which caused Vannaka to lose against his master. This caused Vannaka to be hurt greatly, feeling as if he was not trusted to not use his wolf form or control it. After becoming a slayer master, Vannaka would take up students of his own and task them with slaying creatures and teach them how to properly kill them.

At some point, he had not heard from his friends in Tutorial Island, becoming worried that something had happened, he requested the aid of the Adventurer to discover what happened.

History in Ashenfall

Sometimes after the events of the Sixth Age, Vannaka was requested to join the expedition to Ashenfall. At first, he declined, but hearing about lost history and secrets was enough to convince him to journey to Ashenfall, wanting to learn more about his ancestors, their origin, and how to better control the beast within him.

The following text is transcribed from the Journal.

The mysterious warrior, Vannaka, is regarded as one of the premier slayer masters in the world. He trained under the legendary Duradel, and the two even duelled one another once. Duradel won. Something Vannaka has never entirely managed to get over.

Vannaka's origins are mysterious. He claims no nation as his homeland, nor does he speak of family or friends. Conversations lead only to talk of combat and the slaying of dangerous creatures.

Yet there is something about Ashenfall that creates a silence in him. He stares out across the continent as if searching for something.

• Vannaka's appearance here, while somewhat unique, honors its RuneScape's and Old School RuneScape counterparts. The major differences are the armor he is wearing, and the head gear.
  • Whenever you find him, Vannaka is always without his signature Steel Greatsword and dragon square shield. While two of his campsite shows the great sword, the shield is still missing.
  • According to Mod Raven, when creating Vannaka, the design team had not modelled a beard yet, for awhile, he was clean shaved.
