Fractured Plains
The Fractured Plains is a Power level 3 area in Ashenfall, found just north of the Whispering Swamp.
Description
[edit | edit source]The Fractured Plains is located in the eastern central region of Ashenfall, east of the Stormtouched Highlands and north of the Whispering Swamp. The region is characterized by reddish grass and lush forests with multiple paths running through it. A notable feature is the presence of a strange purple energy flow cutting through the northern part of the region.
The anima in this region is less stable than in Brynmoor, causing more pronounced anima twist effects. The local flora takes on the hues of dragonfire, creating a visual effect similar to an inferno when summer winds blow through the area.
A shattered tower stands in the distance, still containing ancient dragonkin magic. This structure serves as the lair of General Velgar, a dragon whose roars can be heard throughout the region.
The Fractured Plains gained their name from the cataclysmic battle between the goddess Lougrim and the dragon queen Kuldra. This conflict literally fractured the landscape as described in historical records: [1] Using his newfound elemental powers, Brakka constructed a massive tower that would later become known as Brakka's Folly. Despite having abilities that could have benefited the entire continent, he chose to create a monument to his own glory. [2] The construction of this tower relied not only on Brakka's elemental powers but also on the forced labor of garou slaves. [3]
Atop a mesa in the Plains, something crystalline glistens in the moonlight, accompanied by a mournful sound carried on the wind. Garou regularly patrol the pathways, and wolves guard the woods, Terrorbirds are present, hinting at the presence of Elves at some point.
History
[edit | edit source]Upon discovering the continent of Ashenfall, the architect Brakka saw Ashenfall as an opportunity to create a new dragonkin empire similar to Orthen, one not chained by the conventions of the elder Dragonkin. [4] Rasthin taught Brakka how to obtain magical power from the anima vents located throughout the continent; Brakkka used this new technique to gain mastery over earth. [5] Brakka used this new power, along with slave labor from the Garou, to build a great tower, a monument to his hubris known as Brakka's Folly.
Brakka met his end in the very tower he had built, slain by the dragon queen, Kuldra [6] After defeating Brakka, Kuldra absorbed his power bestowed it upon her loyal general, Velgar who had been used as a beast of burden after the Human-Garou War. As recompense, Velgar took Brakka's tower as his own, renaming it Velgar's Rise. [7] One of the most defining moments in the history of the Fractured Plains was the battle between the dragon queen Kuldra and the garou goddess Lougrim. This fierce confrontation literally reshaped the landscape fracturing and reshaping it into what we see today, a great chasm surrounds Velgar's rise. [8] The culture of the Garou changed significantly under dragon rule, becoming more brutal and focused on survival of the fittest rather than traditional values. Under Lougrim, they used to carefully select targets, but now the Garou patrol the area, attacking anyone on sight. [9]
